Two men, one a Togolese man previously convicted of murder and the other a previously convicted Lebanese man, have been detained on probable cause suspected of aggravated rape of a child after two girls under the age of 15 were found with them in a tent in Malmö.

It was around 5 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, October 17 this year that the police were alerted to Ön in Limhamn, Malmö municipality, following reports of suspected sex crimes against two girls under 15 years old.

On site were two men — a 44-year-old Lebanese and a 40-year-old Togolese — together with the girls. They were apprehended in an erected tent. The police then cordoned off the area and conducted a forensic investigation of the crime scene.

According to information reported by several media outlets, the girls are said to have run away from a youth care home (HVB-hem) and subsequently ended up in the men’s tent by some means.

African Previously Convicted of Murder

The 40-year-old Togolese man was sentenced about 20 years ago to a lengthy prison term for murder. More recently, he has also been convicted of serious customs offenses, attempted robbery, and several drug-related crimes.

The 44-year-old Lebanese man was most recently convicted this spring of resisting arrest, assaulting a public official, and minor drug offenses.

Both men were detained on October 20 on probable cause, suspected of aggravated rape of a child and witness tampering. Court documents show both men deny the crimes and contest that there are probable grounds for the suspicions.
