The Afghan migrant Irshad Ahmad was convicted two years ago after raping a 13-year-old girl in Malmö – but avoided prison due to his young age. Now the same man has been detained again, suspected of raping yet another girl.
“The suspicion is that this sexual assault was committed under some form of weapon threat,” prosecutor Ludvig Olsson tells Samnytt.
It was in February 2024 that two young men raped a 13-year-old girl at Nydalatorget in Malmö. The girl had for some time been threatened by the perpetrator who was the driving force behind the rape: Irshad Ahmad.
The teenage boys wanted the girl to perform oral sex on them; something she at first refused to do. The boys then pulled out knives and threatened her.
“Then he said to me: ‘I’ll stab you and no one can hear you here. I’m going to leave you here to die,'” the girl told police during questioning.
Escapes Prison
Irshad Ahmad is sentenced in July 2024 for aggravated rape of a child, insulting photography, child pornography offenses, and obstruction of justice. However, he avoids prison, as the civil registry states he is only 15 years old.

Instead, the penalty remains at 10 months of youth care. The ruling becomes final, and he serves the sentence at a special youth institution from September 2024 to March 2025.
Irshad Ahmad was born in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He and his parents were granted residency in Sweden in October 2017. Since late summer 2022, he has been a Swedish citizen.
Suspected of Yet Another Rape
Now Irshad Ahmad, who turns 18 this year, is suspected of yet another aggravated rape against an underage girl. According to the detention application, the assault took place on November 25, 2025.
In addition to the aggravated rape, Ahmad is also suspected of obstruction of justice, robbery, and serious weapons offense.

“When it comes to the weapons offense and the rape of a child, those are connected. The suspicion is that this sexual abuse was committed under some form of weapon threat,” explains prosecutor Ludvig Olsson to Samnytt.
“I can’t answer exactly what type of weapon it was. It is suspected it was some form of firearm.”
Denies the Crimes
Two days after the rape, Irshad Ahmad is also suspected of committing robbery and obstruction of justice against another victim.
“The act of obstruction of justice is tied to the robbery suspicion. It’s the same incident,” Olsson explains.
Irshad Ahmad denies all four suspicions of crime.
“Some investigative measures remain, but the preliminary investigation is expected to be complete within a month,” says prosecutor Ludvig Olsson.
