Sweden is helping Ukraine to attack targets far into Russian territory. This is according to the country’s defense minister Denys Sjmyhal in a post on social media.
Sjmyhal visited Stockholm last week, where he met with the Swedish defense minister Pål Jonson (M). After the meeting on Thursday, he wrote a post on his Telegram channel where he ”thanked friendly Sweden for always being there for us”.
”Thank you for joining the Purl initiative. We appreciate the participation in the ‘Danish model’, thanks to which we have been able to deliver 400 offensive deep-strike missiles to the Ukrainian armed forces”, he writes.

The Purl initiative entails Sweden buying weapons from the USA, which are then donated to Ukraine. The initiative has been criticized because the USA thereby profits from the war.

Wants Gripen
The Ukrainian defense minister says that he believes Ukraine and Sweden should jointly develop radar and air defense systems. Anti-aircraft missiles and interceptors, to be able to shoot down Russian drone missiles.
But what Ukraine is most interested in is the Swedish fighter jet Jas Gripen.

”I discussed with Mr. Pål Jonson the development of Ukraine’s air capabilities. First and foremost – potential deliveries of the Gripen fighter jet from Sweden”, Denys Sjmyhal reveals.
Kristersson: Isolate Russia
While Pål Jonson is meeting with Denys Sjmyhal in Stockholm, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson travels to Tallinn. There, he speaks about the long-term isolation of Russia, even after the war in Ukraine has ended. And that Sweden and the rest of the EU need to ”limit” Russia’s ability to operate in the Baltic Sea.

– We have never had greater control over the Baltic Sea. And of course, that irritates Russia. It is our sea, says Kristersson according to Estonian ERR.
– I definitely think that Sweden, Estonia, and the EU must prepare to isolate Russia in the long term. It will not end with this war.
Russia is particularly dependent on the Baltic Sea for transportation to and from Kaliningrad. The EU has imposed blockade-like actions against the Russian exclave.
