A Muslim activist, known as the figurehead of an Islamist organization that has been banned in several countries, is giving lectures about Islam to young people in Sweden, teaching that democracy is not compatible with their religion—and describing it as both a ‘major haram’ and a ‘major sin’.

He goes by Yosef Ahmad on social media. On April 19 of this year, Yosef uploaded a video clip to his TikTok channel, which has over 2,000 followers, and the video is now approaching 20,000 views.

Yosef Ahmad is a familiar face in the Muslim community in Sweden, where he, among other things, has organized several public meetings about Islam and :censored:6:cdd6bbaa89: developments. He has been identified by the Doku Foundation—which scrutinizes the Islamist scene in Sweden—as one of the most active members of Hizb ut-Tahrir. His real name is Yosef Abou Hachem.

Hizb ut-Tahrir is an international Islamist organization that has been banned in a number of countries, including Germany, the UK, Russia, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Jordan, Malaysia, Kazakhstan as well as several other Central Asian states such as Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.

In other words, several Muslim countries have banned the organization. Hizb ut-Tahrir has also featured in several investigations of terrorist attacks in Scandinavia. The truck terrorist Rakhmat Akilov both liked and shared the organization on Facebook.

Bans are generally motivated by reference to the organization’s political goal of establishing a caliphate and its ideological activities. In other countries, such as Sweden, the organization is not formally banned.

Facsimile

One of the organization’s rallies in Stockholm, with Yosef Ahmad speaking and the crowd chanting:

“Islam will spread”

The idea that Islam should be spread and take over is something Yosef has also made clear in his earlier video clips on social media.

– The only way to preserve Islam, to protect Islam, is to implement and establish the Islamic caliphate that protects Islam and the Muslims, he said, according to video clips circulating from their social media.

Yosef emphasized that Muslims must stand up for Islam in its entirety—not for selective parts or a reduced version, but for Islam as a whole. He further stressed that Islam should be presented ideologically, with strength and intellectual weight, as well as in political terms that challenge the West.

– Islam will prevail. Islam will spread. Islam will be preserved.

Lecturing to Youth in Sweden

The Islam expert has for many years lectured and tried to get Muslims in Sweden on Hizb ut-Tahrir’s path through rallies and putting up posters in suburb areas.

He was previously very active with video clips on various platforms, but their accounts have disappeared. Yosef is still seen on his own accounts where he profiles himself differently and has toned down the association with Hizb ut-Tahrir. But a few clips can still be linked to Hizb ut-Tahrir events.

Today, his TikTok account no longer shows that he has been involved in the now-banned-in-many-countries organization. Instead, he appears as a simple Muslim lecturer.

But the message is still the same and closely linked to Islamism. In a video clip that has been widely spread on social media, he claims that democracy is a ‘kufr idea’ (‘kufr’ = infidelity/denial of Islam, editor’s note) and that it is haram for Muslims to believe in democracy. This is because, he says, ‘democracy and Islam are completely different.’

– Democracy as an idea and democracy as a system is a kufr idea. It’s an idea that is in strict and sharp opposition to Islam and to Islam’s most fundamental parts. It is haram to call for democracy and haram to believe in democracy, he says.

Furthermore, the Islam expert emphasizes that democracy is both a ‘major haram’ and a ‘major sin’, because voters thereby give politicians the mandate to decide what is halal and haram instead of Allah.
