In a letter sent at the beginning of March, the board of the state television channel addresses the government directly, requesting more money from taxpayers.
The letter is directed to Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (Moderate Party) and pleads for a solution to the increased costs in the terrestrial network that have arisen since TV4 left. Specifically, the expenses to Teracom have doubled and now need to be funded.
We normally safeguard the operational separation, but when the basic financial rules for the entire license period are disrupted right at the start, we see it as our responsibility to act.

Furthermore, the board expresses deep concern that funds allocated by Parliament for programming and security are now at risk of being diverted to infrastructure costs, which the state itself has classified as extraordinary.
However, the state television company cannot envision reducing costs of its current operations to cover this, and instead wants extra funds from taxpayers in order to maintain its current scope.

The board also emphasizes that the government established in the public service bill that remarkable increases in terrestrial network costs should be considered extraordinary and not included in the funding allocated for the license period.
After this, the board concludes that a quick decision is necessary. The government must “immediately” present a financing solution for the state television channel “so that trust in the stability and independence of the public service model is maintained,” reports the industry magazine Journalisten.
