Recently, Denmark decided to ban social media for children under 15 years old, and this is a matter that several other countries have either already implemented or are contemplating. In Sweden, a new survey shows that support for a similar ban is also strong.

Last November, a new law was passed in Australia banning social media for children under 16 years old. The ban had strong support among the population. Denmark recently followed suit.

“Mobile phones and social media are stealing our children’s childhood,” said Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in her speech at the opening of the Folketing in October.

When Samnytt reported on the Danish decision, we asked our readers for their opinion on the matter, and the result was clear:

In a new survey conducted by Novus on behalf of TV4, two out of three respondents stated that they want to see a similar ban in Sweden.

In the survey, many stated that platforms like Tiktok and Snapchat have too much influence on children’s lives, and 68 percent want to see a ban on social media for children under 15 years old.

At the same time, 82 percent do not want to remove the possibility of communicating via the internet and believe that regular messaging apps should be allowed.
