The 75-year-old gynecologist Abdel-Gawad Samak, who runs his own medical clinic in Östermalm, Stockholm, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison after raping one of his patients. This was decided by the Stockholm District Court.

The incident occurred in the afternoon of October 20 last year. The woman had sought care at the gynecologist’s clinic because of menstruation-related problems.

The woman had previously visited the clinic. On one occasion together with a friend, and on another occasion accompanied by her children.

Raped

This time, however, the woman was alone. And while she was sitting in the gynecological chair, Abdel-Gawad Samak suddenly inserted his penis into her vagina.

The woman protested and tried to push the violent doctor away, but he was aggressive, held her down, and completed the intercourse. He said things in Arabic during the rape, a language she does not understand, and ejaculated on her stomach.

As soon as the woman got out of the examination room, she called the police at the emergency number 112. The doctor was arrested the same afternoon and remanded in custody a few days later. He has remained in custody since.

Sentenced to Prison

In police questioning, the gynecologist admitted to having sex with the woman, but claimed that it was consensual. He further claimed that the woman’s visits to the clinic had been of a private nature, and that she was not there as a patient.

These are explanations that the Stockholm District Court does not believe. Among other things, because he issued a prescription for medicine during the visit, which indicates that she was in fact there as a patient.

“Overall, the district court finds that the information provided by Abdel-Gawad Samak is so unreasonable and improbable that it should be dismissed,” the court writes in its verdict.

Abdel-Gawad Samak is originally from Egypt but has been a Swedish citizen since the late 1980s. He has now been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for rape.
