DEBATE • In SVT’s Utrikesbyrån, the theme on 2025-12-09 was ‘Save the Christians’ [sic], and it was evident that they had decided to show that there is no genocide of Christians. It is clear that they always choose people who have the right opinions according to SVT.

The host was Rebecca Randhawa. Invited to the studio were future US correspondent Sofia Yohannes, Joel Halldorf, professor of church history, and Görrel Espelund, editor of the Utrikespolitiska Institutet.

The reason for addressing the topic is that Donald Trump has brought attention to the extensive killing of Christians in Nigeria. Until now, the subject has been swept under the rug for the sake of Gaza.

Joel states that the topic is part of a narrative about genocide of Christians. Already here, they are relativizing. Instead, they talk about the situation being complex. In Nigeria, with an area approximately double the size of Sweden, 230-240 million people live, of which 43% are Christians and 56% are Muslims.

A kidnapped woman tells how the kidnappers tried to make them convert to Islam. Those who refused were sold as slaves. They were abused, sexually exploited, and treated worse than animals. Money was required for their freedom. Ransoms were demanded to free kidnapped schoolchildren.

SVT’s hypothesis: Due to climate change

The SVT panel explained the country’s problems as being due to climate change, poverty, and lack of contributions from the Western world. Not a word about the population increase creating poverty and conflicts over resources, for example, between farming communities and pastoralist herders. Providing aid in such a situation is like pouring gasoline on a fire.

According to the organization Open Doors, in Nigeria, 20% of Muslims and 80% of Christians have been killed.

A film clip shows a Nigerian politician who is said to be Muslim. He says: ‘There is an ongoing genocide, a targeted killing of people because of their faith. Even non-radical Muslims are killed by the terrorists, especially by Boko Haram. Christians are killed because they are Christians. So, it is clear that there is targeted killing because of people’s faith, and it constitutes genocide. There is genocide of Christians, genocide of Muslims, and genocide in general in Nigeria.’

What he says is crystal clear. Based on his words, I judge that he is a secular Muslim. However, the panel interprets this as both Christians and Muslims being affected, as if there is no ongoing genocide. Apparently, the panel sees this as both sides being affected. But then they have no knowledge of Islam. According to Islam, it is forbidden not to submit to the rules of the Quran. If one does not do so, they have left Islam and become an apostate. This is punished by death.

All non-Muslims are affected

So, if Muslims live more secularly, play instruments, dance, sing, drink alcohol, etc., they are considered apostates and should be killed. To describe the reality in a country with Muslims, there is a war against those who do not fully submit to Islam. Islam strives for :censored:6:cdd6bbaa89: dominance, a caliphate. Those who are affected are everyone else, secular Muslims, Jews, Christians, atheists, Hindus, Alevis (a form of Muslims not considered Muslims because they are too tolerant of deviations), and more.

The best description is that there is a genocide against all with beliefs that deviate from the one true Islam, and the yardstick is the Quran and the hadiths. The fact that the president/dictator is Muslim is likely a consequence of Muslims being in the majority, and he presumably stands on their side in the conflict, but naturally denies it. According to Islam, it is right to lie when it benefits Islam. This is called taqiyya.

According to Open Doors, Christians are also prevented from obtaining positions in the authorities. This reinforces the creeping Islamization of Nigeria. So, when it comes to the situation in Nigeria, Trump is right.

Similar developments in Europe

We also have this development in Europe, where more non-Muslims are killed by Muslims than the other way around. We are also slowly submitting to Islamic rules to avoid provoking their violence. And as Muslims have more children than non-Muslims, we have the same development as in Nigeria, but we do not see it coming.

Rebecca asked if it could be said that we have a genocide in Nigeria. Görrel dismissed this. Genocide is the worst crime, and just because many die, it is not a genocide. It is difficult to prove, she says. There must be intent. According to Joel, one should not express themselves in a way that adds fuel to the fire. This relativization and concealment are a typical consequence of the mass psychosis of the ’68 left.
