Just a few months after Donald Trump narrowly escaped being killed by a shooter during a speech in Pennsylvania, a new assassination attempt on the Republican former president took place while he was playing golf at his course in West Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday. This time, the Secret Service acted much faster.

It was Sunday evening Swedish time when Trump was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club and Secret Service agents discovered a rifle barrel sticking out through a fence about 450 meters away – a distance that is not particularly far with such a weapon, according to Ric Bradshaw, sheriff of West Palm Beach.

One of the officers fired at the suspected shooter, who dropped the weapon and fled the scene, leaving behind an AK-47-like automatic weapon, two backpacks, a scope, and a GoPro camera. He was later apprehended.

There are also reports that the shooter may have fired several shots at Trump.

58-year-old Democrat

The man who appears to have been attempting to murder Trump is 58-year-old Democrat Ryan Wesley Routh. On his social media, he has repeatedly criticized Trump and expressed support for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

The man has also been involved in supporting Ukraine and claimed to be willing to die in the war and wanting to burn down the Kremlin. Trump’s Vice President JD Vance has been critical of the war’s financing, and Trump has claimed to be able to end the conflict quickly.

FBI confirmed in a statement that it was indeed an assassination attempt.

Shortly after the incident, Trump’s campaign reassured that he was unharmed and safe. The president himself later made a statement.
