A brutal machete attack in Stockholm, where a young man had his hand severed and sustained life-threatening injuries, has now led to long prison sentences. The prosecutor argued it was an attempted murder, but Södertörn District Court concluded that it was an exceptionally aggravated assault. In the same case, a third person was also sentenced for aggravated extortion linked to the same violent environment.

On December 4, 2025, a young man was lured to Vintervikshallen in Stockholm under the belief that he was going to buy tramadol, but instead, two people awaited him there with completely different intentions.

According to the verdict now handed down by Södertörn District Court, the two men attacked together. One, Mohammed Naji, 19, knocked the victim to the ground and kicked him, while the other, Lukas Hökenhammar, 19, pulled out a machete and repeatedly struck the victim’s legs, arms, and hands.

The violence was of an extreme nature. The victim sustained several deep lacerations, his Achilles tendon was severed, and one hand was chopped off. He survived—but suffered serious and lasting injuries.

After the attack, the perpetrators fled the scene. According to the verdict, the machete was thrown into the water at Vinterviken, but despite diving efforts, the police were never able to find the weapon. However, a sheath for the knife was found at the scene.

District Court: The victim was not the intended target

According to the court, the background to the assault is an earlier conflict in which Lukas Hökenhammar, one of the perpetrators, had himself been assaulted. The machete attack was intended as an act of revenge—but the perpetrators likely attacked the wrong person.

The verdict points out a violent environment where several people are involved in chat groups, drug contacts, and threatening confrontations. The man who was attacked was, according to the court, not the intended target, but was caught in the crossfire when the perpetrators were seeking revenge on someone else.

The investigation shows that the person police believe was the real target closely resembled the victim.

Court: “Reckless” violence

The prosecutor primarily sought to have both men convicted of attempted murder. However, the district court chose to convict them of exceptionally aggravated assault, as the court did not consider it proven that the perpetrators intended to kill.

Lukas carried a machete that he obviously intended to use. Besides that, there is nothing in the investigation suggesting that Lukas and/or Naji had a direct intention to kill NN or that it would have seemed almost inevitable to either of them that he would die from the machete blows to his arms and legs.

At the same time, the court describes the violence as almost reckless and notes that the perpetrators showed particular ruthlessness.

According to the verdict, the victim suffered permanent nerve damage, drop foot, severely reduced hand function, and serious psychological problems after the attack. He is reportedly still undergoing treatment.

Multi-year prison sentences

Lukas Hökenhammar, whom the court identifies as the one who wielded the machete, is sentenced to six years and six months in prison for exceptionally aggravated assault.

The other, Mohammed Naji, is sentenced to three years and six months in prison for the same crime. The court finds that he also bears responsibility for the extreme violence since he participated in the attack, continued to kick the victim, and prevented him from escaping while Lukas attacked with the machete.

The two are also to jointly pay SEK 363,705 in damages to the victim.

Another man was convicted of attempted extortion after a previous incident in which masked men entered a residence, threatened a woman with a gun, and subsequently sent messages demanding SEK 72,000. He is now sentenced to eight months in prison.
