The municipality of Malmö is participating in the ongoing climate summit in Brazil. This was confirmed by the Malmö City Office in an email to Samnytt.
The chairman of the municipal council, Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh (S), has traveled to the tropical city of Belém, along with her press secretary Carolina Ekman, and Ola Nord, who is responsible for Malmö’s Brussels office.

Last week, Samnytt asked why it is considered necessary for Malmö to participate in the climate summit as a municipality, and how it is justified. We have not yet received a response.
“At the forefront”
In an interview with COP30’s website, Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh says that she is flying to Brazil to demand clearer guidelines from decision-makers on how Malmö as a municipality can implement the Paris Agreement.
“Cities and regions are not external demanders in this process; instead, we are at the forefront of implementation and are engaged in climate work, while also managing the effects of climate change in our communities,” she says.
The Swedish Social Democratic Party leader is not alone in participating in the summit as a municipal representative. Several other cities and municipalities around the world are also present.
“From Rio to Belém and all the way to thousands of communities around the world, we support the participants in their work to promote sustainable communities, accessible and fair cities, and a future in which we can all live,” says Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh.
