The Foodora courier from Bangladesh who was charged with kissing and molesting an 11-year-old girl during a food delivery in Stockholm has now received his sentence. Prison and deportation await the man—but not permanently. Despite the serious crime, previous deportation orders, and a long series of rejected residence permit applications, he may soon return to Sweden. The prosecutor settled for only seeking a five-year deportation ban and does not want to answer questions about the decision.

At the end of May, Samnytt reported that a mother and her daughter were baking in their apartment in central Stockholm. Since they were missing some ingredients, they placed a Foodora order for the remaining items.

But when 31-year-old delivery man Muhammed Ifthakharul Islam from Bangladesh arrived at the building, he claimed the intercom was not working, so the 11-year-old daughter went downstairs to open the entrance door and help with the supposedly heavy groceries.

On their way up, the courier told the girl that she was beautiful and that he wanted to take a picture of her. Then he began kissing her on the mouth and face, touching her shoulders and back. He attempted to stick his tongue in the girl’s mouth but failed. Muhammed Ifthakharul Islam seemed undeterred by knowing she was only eleven.

The court documents also state that the Foodora courier from Bangladesh stroked her breasts and buttocks. Furthermore, the courier asked if she had a boyfriend and that he wanted to be her boyfriend.

When they reached the correct floor, he did not let the girl out and pressed the elevator to the ground floor again, prolonging the incident. Before they left, he gave the girl his Snapchat username so that they could keep in touch.

DNA traces found on the girl

When they got back to the apartment, the mother immediately noticed her daughter was in shock, confronted the man, and asked what he had done. He replied something along the lines of “it was okay because he was a student too.” He then left the scene quickly and the police were contacted.

The police took a DNA sample from the girl’s face, which subsequently matched the Foodora courier. The sample consisted of saliva from the girl’s cheek and lips.

Blames racist customers

In police interviews, Muhammed Ifthakharul Islam from Bangladesh denied the accusations. He also emphasized his economic situation, claiming he comes from a poor family and works to survive, which comes across as an attempt to elicit sympathy for his situation.

– I avoid working downtown because people are crazy, he said with the help of an interpreter.

He also claimed that the mother who reported him was angry due to a late delivery and thus began to yell at him.

– That night I was so scared I couldn’t sleep.

The migrant then tried to portray the incident as being about racism.

– I have some experience with Foodora customers. Some have a negative attitude and don’t like immigrants. I couldn’t sleep that night. She insulted me and yelled at me, he continued:

– I ended up in some kind of trauma. That was the whole sequence of events. I haven’t done anything wrong. Besides, when I noticed she was upset, I also said “Sorry.”

Remains through repeated applications

Samnytt can reveal that since 2019 the migrant has tried to remain in Sweden. His first application for a residence permit was submitted then. At first, these were temporary for studies. Among other places, he studied at Örebro and Linköping universities.

The following years saw several applications rejected, including a case for revoking his residence permit. On January 10, 2025, a deportation order to Bangladesh was also issued. However, the deportation was never executed because he kept appealing and submitting new residence permit applications.

This allowed him to remain in Sweden and work for Foodora, where he is later suspected of committing aggravated sexual assault against an 11-year-old girl—despite earlier rejections and a standing deportation order.

Complains about the Tidö government

Court documents between the migrant and the Swedish Migration Agency show that year after year, his applications have been rejected. But also that “there were problems” when the Tidö government tightened the wage requirement.

He has, among other things, applied for a work permit, but the problems have revolved around salary conditions at various workplaces and that “the government increased the income requirement” in 2023—which he hopes the migration courts might understand.

Furthermore, the migrant highlights that he has studied 31.5 university credits, which he believes should work in his favor regarding his right to a Swedish residence permit.

Deported—but only for 5 years

On June 4, the Stockholm District Court announced that Muhammed Ifthakharul Islam was convicted of aggravated sexual molestation of a child and sentenced to eight months in prison. However, despite the serious offense and a history of not obtaining a residence permit, he will not be deported for life from Sweden.

He is, in fact, welcome back. That was decided by Chief Prosecutor Sigrid Windahl when she only requested a five-year deportation ban.

Samnytt has tried to contact the prosecutor for an explanation regarding the limited request, but Sigrid Windahl has chosen not to respond.
