SVT’s exit poll shows a clear drop for the Sweden Democrats, who decrease by 3.3 percentage points. At the same time, the Moderates appear set to overtake and take the position as Sweden’s second largest party. TV4’s corresponding exit poll, however, paints a slightly different picture. There, the Sweden Democrats retain their position as the second largest party, although the party also loses ground in that poll.

The first numbers after today’s election are beginning to come in. SVT’s exit poll Valu, which is based on responses from voters across the country, provides an early indication of how the votes may have been distributed.

SVT’s exit poll:

Social Democrats 28.4 percent
Moderates 18.5 percent
Sweden Democrats 17.2 percent
Left Party 8.0 percent
Centre Party 7.5 percent
Green Party 7.4 percent
Christian Democrats 6.1 percent
Liberals 5.4 percent

TV4’s exit poll:

Social Democrats 28.4 percent
Sweden Democrats 18.5 percent
Moderates 17.5 percent
Centre Party 9.0 percent
Green Party 7.0 percent
Left Party 6.9 percent
Christian Democrats 6.0 percent
Liberals 5.0 percent

Valu is based on responses from around 12,000 voters at polling stations across the country. The survey should not be confused with the actual election results, but it has historically provided a fairly accurate indication of the election’s outcome.

Meanwhile, vote counting has now begun throughout the country. Over the coming hours, the picture is expected to become increasingly clear.
