US President Donald Trump claims that he and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte have reached an agreement regarding Greenland. But neither Denmark nor Greenland is involved, and now the Danish government is responding.
As is well known, US President Donald Trump wants, one way or another, to gain control over Greenland. With or without the consent of Denmark or Greenland.
During the annual World Economic Forum summit in Davos, he reiterated his demand on Wednesday.

Framework Agreement with NATO
Greenland enjoys extensive self-rule, but is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. That is why the government in Copenhagen is responsible for the island’s foreign and defense policy.
And both that government and the self-government in Nuuk – Greenland’s capital – have, on several occasions, rejected Trump’s demand for it to become part of the USA.

On Wednesday evening, however, Trump announced on his site Truth Social a breakthrough in the negotiations: A “framework” for a “future agreement regarding Greenland” as well as “the entire Arctic region.”
– What we’re talking about, the details are really being negotiated now, is total access. An unlimited one, Trump told Fox.

And as a result of the agreement, which according to the US president is “fantastic for the USA”, the punitive tariffs Trump threatened the EU with have been called off.
Denmark: “We Don’t Negotiate Our Sovereignty”
That Trump is negotiating with the US-dominated military alliance NATO about Greenland’s future, over the heads of Denmark and Greenland, is drawing reactions in Copenhagen.
“NATO is fully aware of the Kingdom of Denmark’s position. We can negotiate politically about everything – security, investments, the economy. But we cannot negotiate our sovereignty,” says Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in a statement on Thursday, continuing:
“I have been informed that this has not been the case either. And of course, only Denmark and Greenland themselves can make decisions regarding matters that concern Denmark and Greenland.”
While Frederiksen says it is “good and natural” that Trump and Rutte talk about security in the Arctic, the Danish Armed Forces have flown in soldiers and weapons to Greenland. Officially, under the pretext of participating in the hastily arranged exercise ‘Arctic Endurance’.
