US President Donald Trump says he does not want Somali immigrants in the country and believes they should return home. At the same time, he notes that their country is not good for a reason.

Trump’s comments come as immigration authorities plan an enforcement action among the large number of Somalis in the state of Minnesota. Minneapolis and St. Paul, known as the Twin Cities, are home to one of the largest Somali communities in the world and the largest in the US.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been tasked by the Trump administration to seek out illegal Somali immigrants in the Twin Cities. They have intensified their immigration measures following the shooting of two National Guard members in Washington DC last week. 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom was killed and 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe was seriously injured. The suspected perpetrator is Afghan.

“I don’t want them in our country,” Trump said during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday and warned, according to the BBC, that the USA would ‘go in the wrong direction if we continue to take in garbage in our country’.

“With Somalia, which is barely a country, you know, they have nothing. They just run around and kill each other. There is no structure,” Trump said.

Upholding the law

At the same time, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem proposes that her agency should focus on visa fraud in Minnesota.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, declined to comment on the planned operations and denied that any individuals would be targeted based on race.

“Every day, ICE upholds the nation’s laws across the country,” says Tricia McLaughlin of the agency.

“What makes someone a target for ICE is not their race or ethnicity, but the fact that they are illegally in the country.”

Political correctness

In a longer post on Truth Social, Trump writes about the situation with immigrants in the US that strains the systems and points out political correctness as one of the biggest reasons for the failed immigration policies in many Western countries:
