In a new survey, the Swedish people have been asked about their opinions on various so-called climate taxes, and a tax on meat is not something they want to see.

On behalf of the state television, Indikator Opinion has examined the Swedes’ attitude towards three punitive taxes on things that are claimed to lead to the planet’s downfall: meat and dairy, air travel, and fuel.

“We fly mostly infrequently, and there is greater support for that. But the closer it comes to everyday life, the less popular it seems to be,” says Per Oleskog Tryggvason, opinion chief at Indikator.

In Denmark, a tax on meat and dairy production is planned, but this is something rejected by the Swedes. Only 19 percent of those surveyed think it’s a good idea.

Flight tax more acceptable

“We have so many taxes in Sweden today. We already have VAT, that’s enough,” says a customer interviewed by SVT in a grocery store.

Thirty-three percent consider taxes and fees on fuel to be a fairly or very good proposal, while every other person can consider accepting a flight tax.
