This week, a person was arrested on suspicion of serious thefts, including at Danderyd Hospital in Stockholm County.

According to the police, several of the victims have been seriously ill when they were robbed, and many of them are also elderly. The thefts have been ongoing for some time. To be able to identify and apprehend suspected perpetrators, the police have taken a comprehensive approach to the problem.

Several functions have been deployed, and the work includes police officers in the affected local police areas with good local knowledge, investigators in serious crime, and specialist functions such as scent trackers and financial investigators.

“We have deployed a comprehensive resource to interrupt ongoing criminal activity and curb future thefts against particularly vulnerable victims. We do not rule out that more arrests will be made,” says Carolin Forssell, lead investigator in serious crime in northern Stockholm.

The person who is now arrested and detained has connections to Danderyd Hospital, which has been affected by several of the thefts. The arrest took place in a residence in Stockholm.

“We are still in the initial stage of a comprehensive investigation, with the goal of mapping the problem and providing redress to the victims,” says Emma Kyhlstedt, public prosecutor.

Advised to leave valuables at home

At Danderyd Hospital, it is confirmed that the thefts have occurred there and that several people during the year have reported losing personal belongings during visits.

“We take the matter seriously and have reinforced our routine for handling patients’ belongings. The hospital also has ongoing collaboration with the Police,” writes the hospital.

To ensure that valuables are handled in a safe and secure manner in the future, patients are advised, among other things, not to bring valuables to the hospital, even in the event of an emergency visit.
