A pensioner receiving Malmö City’s home care was subjected to grossly abusive treatment in their own home. An employee is said to have called the pensioner a “whore” and told the person to “shut up.”
An internal report states that the employee on several occasions directed serious derogatory remarks towards the elderly person, while the situation in the apartment was described as stressful and difficult for the pensioner.
The incident reportedly took place in mid-April this year during personal care at home. Two home care staff members were present.
It was one of the two employees who later raised the alarm about the situation. In their report, the person describes how the older client struggled to orient themselves and get to the bathroom, which, according to the account, led to an aggressive situation.

The home care worker is said to have reacted aggressively towards the pensioner who needed help. The colleague testifies that the worker called the pensioner a “whore” and also told them to “shut up.”
When the pensioner also urinated themselves during the incident, the verbal abuse reportedly continued. The other staff member who reported the event testified that the pensioner looked scared and sad.
Appeals to Managers
In the same document, the colleague calls for stricter routines and better staff recruitment. “Hire better staff!” the co-worker wrote as a plea.

“Unacceptable”
Malmö City’s home care confirms that the employee in question had a temporary contract which has now ended following the incident. Unit manager Thomas Lindh describes the behavior as completely unacceptable.
– To put it mildly: it is utterly appalling, he told Sydsvenskan.
