The Social Democrat politician Jörgen Blomberg in Torsby, Värmland, is being prosecuted for rape and other sexual offenses against two girls aged 13 and 14. The 46-year-old politician was detained in February this year, and the main trial against him begins next week.
– He will end up in prison for four to five years, says Prosecutor Emil Danielsson Nykänen to Samnytt.

The alleged crimes were committed during the spring and summer of 2024. Jörgen Blomberg got in contact with the two girls, who lived in another part of Sweden, via the internet.

– They initially made contact via TikTok. Then they moved their communications to other social media, says Prosecutor Emil Danielsson Nykänen to Samnytt.

The Social Democrat politician offered the girls money if they would send him pictures of themselves naked or performing various sexual acts. Among other things, he wanted the girls to take pictures of themselves performing acts that, according to the law, are equivalent to intercourse.

He also tried to arrange meetings with both girls.

– What happened is that he transferred money to them through Swish. An adult close to the children noticed this and thought it seemed odd, says Emil Danielsson Nykänen.

This led to a preliminary investigation, where the Social Democrat politician was identified as the perpetrator in September 2024.

– After the suspect was identified, the case landed on my desk, explains the prosecutor.

Released from Custody

Jörgen Blomberg was brought in for questioning, and his mobile phone and other storage devices were seized, but he was then released. The reason was that, initially, it was not entirely clear what his contacts with the girls had been about. There were no grounds at the time to detain him.

It was not until this year that police technicians found pictures and videos of the two girls saved by Blomberg.

– Work on phone forensics like this takes a very long time. But when we went through the phones and devices we had seized from this man, we found evidence suggesting it was a matter of rape over the internet, says Emil Danielsson Nykänen and predicts a relatively significant prison sentence for the Social Democrat:

– What is decisive is whether the district court finds that these are child rapes. The minimum sentence for child rape is three years, so he will end up in prison for at least four to five years.

Jörgen Blomberg was arrested in absentia on February 11. He was apprehended almost a week later and then formally remanded in custody.

Denies the Charges

Jörgen Blomberg, who has held several political posts for the Social Democrats in Torsby and appeared in the party’s campaign material, is now charged with three counts of child rape, two sexual abuses of children, two counts of sexual molestation of children, two cases of exploiting a child for sexual posing, child pornography offenses involving more than 50 films and images, and contact to meet a child for sexual purposes.

The prosecutor says there is a relationship between the two girls, but he does not wish to specify what kind.

– There is a connection between them, but exactly what it looks like in detail, I don’t feel there’s any need to go into, he says.

The main trial will be held next week, on April 16 and 17. The accused politician denies the charges. Blomberg has no prior convictions but has large debts to the Swedish Enforcement Authority – 1.4 million kronor – and has been granted debt restructuring.
