AfD Success: Largest Party in Yet Another Federal State

AfD appears set to become the largest party in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern following a significant surge in Sunday’s state election. According to exit polls, the party is projected to receive over 37 percent of the votes, an increase of about 20 percentage points compared to the previous election.

It has been two weeks since AfD’s major success in the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, where the party received 43.8 percent of the votes. Now, the successes are continuing in yet another German federal state.

According to ARD’s exit poll from Sunday’s election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, AfD will be the largest party. The party rises from 16.7 to 37.7 percent of the votes.

Meanwhile, several of the establishment parties are losing ground. Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democratic CDU is dropping significantly, as are the Social Democrats (SPD), the Left Party Die Linke, and the Green Party.
