Over the years, Skara’s Muslims have been using temporary and rented premises such as the scout cabin, but now they have acquired a permanent place to turn into a mosque.

It is in the old Chinese restaurant Canton that the Muslim association in Skara has moved in. The new location is described as a boost for the group.

– Finally, we have a place of our own, says Ali Ahmad Omoro, involved in the congregation since its inception in the 90s, to Skaraborgs läns tidning.

Among the premises used over the years was one next to the police station, but they had to leave after a fire. According to Omoro, the premises had an old sauna that they never used, and one day smoke suddenly came from it and started to burn.

Many visitors during Ramadan

After the fire, they rented the scout cabin one week at a time, mainly to hold Friday prayers, and Omoro describes the lack of a permanent place as difficult. For several years, they searched for premises and finally found the old Chinese restaurant. Especially the children and women are said to be very happy.

The congregation was started in 1992 and throughout all the years, they have chosen not to seek any form of financial support or funding. Today, they have 100-150 active members, but during holidays, the number of visitors can rise to several hundred, especially during Ramadan.
