Two men from Syria who were employed in home care in Kristinehamn are being prosecuted after humiliating an 81-year-old care recipient. This is evident from the indictment.
On September 12, the two home care employees filmed the 81-year-old man while speaking Arabic with each other. They point at the 81-year-old, call him a “grumpy old man” and laugh at him.

One of the home care workers is named Mohammad Kher Alhasa. He is 20 years old and comes from Daraa in Syria. He is now a Swedish citizen. He is the one filming.
The other home care worker is named Ghazi Jamal Eddin. He is 25 years old and comes from Homs in Syria. He is not a Swedish citizen. He appears in the filming.
Shared via WhatsApp
The matter would likely never have come to the police’s attention if Mohammad Kher Alhasa had not shared the video with his friends via WhatsApp. And one of these friends is involved in another preliminary investigation regarding a different crime.
In that investigation, the police used coercive measures, including seizing a mobile phone and extracting its contents. In this way, police investigators discovered the video where the 81-year-old man is mocked and humiliated.
Through the phone number linked to the WhatsApp account from which the video was sent, investigators were able to identify the two home care workers.
Admits and Denies
When the two home care Syrians are questioned by police, they take different positions to the accusation. Mohammad Kher Alhasa immediately admits the crime.
– I know it sounds strange but I admit it, he says.
– Yes, I’m not going to say I didn’t do wrong. Everyone can make mistakes and I made a mistake. I work at Östra and everyone likes me. I help everyone. But what happened was wrong and I admit it.

Ghazi Jamal Eddin, who is not a Swedish citizen and likely has most to lose by a conviction, denies any crime. He insists that it was all a joke.
– It’s just fun. I’m just joking with him, he says.
Charged with Crimes
Now, both home care Syrians are charged with crimes. Mohammad Kher Alhasan is charged with offensive photography, while Ghazi Jamal Eddin is charged with molestation.
Ghazi Jamal Eddin is also charged with minor drug offenses in a separate count.
