The founder of Expo, left-wing figure, and associate professor Tobias Hübinette has been charged with unlawful threats and harassment against two close individuals. Crimes for which he risks being sentenced to prison.
– For unlawful threats, we have fines and imprisonment for up to two years, prosecutor Tove Forshällen tells Samnytt.
Since 2013, Tobias Hübinette has been in a relationship with a woman eleven years younger. She is a so-called gender studies scholar who leads an integration project in the city of Stockholm. In 2022, the couple moved in together in a shared apartment.
The partner wants to have children, but not with Hübinette. Instead, she posts an ad on Facebook looking for another man to become a mother together with. She subsequently becomes pregnant with a man she found in this way.
And this forms the background to the events that have now ended up in court. This was first brought to attention by journalist and activist Christian Peterson.
“F***ing whore”
In August 2022, Tobias Hübinette wrote a large number of messages in a group chat he shared with his partner and the father of her child. The messages stem from his despair over the fact that the love of his life seemingly no longer wants anything to do with him, and his unfulfilled longing to become a father himself.
In the group chat, he calls his partner a “f***ing whore” and reproaches her for not wanting to “spread her legs or have children with me,” even though he is “showering” her with money.

He also promises revenge. He writes that he will “hurt you all as much as I can until I die” and that he will “die with pride” after destroying the lives of his partner and the father of her child.
“My hatred for you is limitless and I already have so many convictions that I no longer care,” and “Now you will all suffer and perish, you bastards,” are other threatening messages Hübinette sends to them.
Convicted Left-Wing Extremist
Tobias Hübinette is a well-known figure in the Swedish left. In the early 90s, he was active in the organization Stoppa rasismen (“Stop Racism”), which was backed by the Socialist Party. It was during this involvement that he was first convicted—sentenced to prison for vandalism, sabotage, and incitement to riot.
In 1995, Tobias Hübinette, together with among others Stieg Larsson, founded Expo. It is a far-left organization connected to the militant Antifascist Action (AFA), which has, since its inception, been dedicated to mapping and exposing political opponents.

Hübinette was later convicted of further crimes, including setting fire to the home of a former girlfriend and her new boyfriend.
The many criminal convictions, however, were not a major obstacle for his academic career. In 2010, Hübinette was hired as an associate professor at Södertörn University, and in 2015 he secured a well-paid position at Karlstad University—a job he commutes to from his home in Stockholm.
Rape Threats
In the threatening messages to his partner, Tobias Hübinette also writes that he “tries to rape” his partner, and that he has tried to “sexually assault” her at least 80 times over the past five years.
Claims that prosecutor Tove Forshällen argues are not accurate, despite coming from the perpetrator himself.

– Interviews have been conducted with individuals, but we have not received any indication that there is any substance to this. So no, we have not investigated it further. We have not found probable cause, she tells Samnytt.
It is Tove Forshällen who has brought charges against the now 54-year-old left-wing figure for unlawful threats and harassment, after the father of his partner’s child chose to report the messages to the police. But, the indictment does not, therefore, include rape or any other sexual offense.
Prison Is in the Sentencing Range
Tove Forshällen notes, however, that unlawful threats alone is a crime punishable by imprisonment.
– For unlawful threats, we have fines and imprisonment for up to two years, she tells Samnytt, but does not want to speculate on what penalty will be sought during the main hearing.
– I don’t even know if I will be leading the main hearing, so I don’t want to answer that since it could be a colleague who makes a different assessment of the penalty value than I do, she says.
The main hearing is scheduled for May 27. Samnytt has contacted Karlstad University for comment.
