Iraqi Refugee Raped Swedish Girl, 15 - Court Blocks Deportation, Father Charged
A 24-year-old Iraqi refugee got four years for raping a 15-year-old Swedish girl in Lycksele, but the court refused to deport him. Now the girl's father, who smashed up the family's car, faces prosecution.
LYCKSELE - An Iraqi man who traded alcohol and snus to local teenagers in a small northern Swedish town has been jailed for four years for raping a 15-year-old Swedish girl. The court refused to deport him. Now the girl's father, who confronted the man's family, is the one facing prosecution.
The girl knew Sajjad Albanisaeed, 24, through his younger brother and mutual friends. According to the police investigation, she had given him rides several times in exchange for tins of snus.
On December 20, 2024, he messaged her asking for a lift home from work, again offering snus in return. At his home he told her the tin was in his room and asked her to come up. Once inside, he locked the door, held her down and raped her.
She only told anyone in early January 2025, after Albanisaeed had bragged to his brother that the two had "had sex".
Known Bootlegger in Town
The rape was not an isolated act. Prosecutors charged Albanisaeed with a long list of offences, including child pornography, sexual molestation of children, several attempts to buy sexual acts from minors, attempting to get a child to pose sexually, covert filming and repeated illegal sales of alcohol.
Investigators say he sold alcohol and nicotine products to underage girls and demanded nude pictures or sexual favours as payment. He also threatened to send "the boys" after girls who refused, and sent one a photo of himself with ammunition in his mouth. Police found suspected child abuse material on his phone.
It still took police six months to arrest him.
The Father Snapped
On June 28, 2025, the girl's father had had enough. He told police he "lost it" that evening. Rumours were spreading that his daughter had traded sexual favours for tobacco, and he could see the family's house from her bedroom window.
According to the charges, he forced his way into the Albanisaeed home, threatened to kill the family, smashed the glass in an inside door, grabbed one of the men by the throat and broke the windows of a car outside.
Four Years - and No Deportation
On April 30 this year, Lycksele District Court convicted Albanisaeed on all counts but one. The court said the rape alone carried a penal value of three and a half years, because the victim was so young and he had used force. In total, it sentenced him to four years in prison.
The prosecutor had asked for him to be deported and banned from returning. The court said no.
According to the Swedish Migration Agency, Albanisaeed came from Iraq and has held a residence permit since 2017. In June 2022 he was granted refugee status on the grounds that he risked persecution in Iraq over his "imputed political opinion and religion", reportedly because his father refused to join a state-backed militia and his parents follow a different faith.
The court itself found that the basic conditions for deportation were met given the seriousness of his crimes. But it ruled that the obstacles to sending him back were personal, tied to his family, and would still exist when he is released. So it declined to order his deportation.
The convicted rapist will stay in Sweden. The father who went after him now risks prison himself.
