38 of SL’s red buses have been reported stolen. The vehicles had been taken out of service and were to be sold to an external buyer. But now the buses are missing, and SL does not want to discuss what has happened or who might be held responsible.

The buses are registered as stolen both with the Swedish Transport Agency and Larmtjänst, an organization that assists the insurance industry with, among other things, alerts for stolen vehicles.

The owner of the 38 vehicles is SL Finans, a subsidiary of Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL). The buses are said to have disappeared on October 6.

According to SL, the buses were no longer being used in regular service. They had been withdrawn from use and were to be transferred to an external party.

SL has reported the missing buses to the police, but provides no further details about what might have happened or who was responsible for the buses when they disappeared.

“Regarding which parties are involved, a dialogue is still ongoing, and we therefore do not want to pre-empt it by commenting on responsibilities at this time,” SL’s press service wrote to Aftonbladet.

It therefore remains unclear how the buses disappeared, where they might be, and what happened in connection with the planned sale.
