Swedish television spread a heavily manipulated video clip from Donald Trump’s attention-grabbing speech on January 6, 2021. This was revealed by the newspaper Kvartal.
Last week, the British BBC was shaken by a scandal after it was revealed that the television company had manipulated a video from Donald Trump’s speech on January 6, 2021. The speech had been edited in a way that made it appear as if Trump was urging those listening to the speech to storm the American parliament.
The fake news scandal led to the resignation of the state television company’s director general Tim Davie, as well as BBC News CEO Deborah Turness.

Swedish television did the same
Now, the newspaper Kvartal reveals that the Swedish state television has done the same thing as its British counterparts. In October last year, SVT spread a heavily distorted version of Trump’s speech, where four different parts of it were edited together to make it appear as if the American president was inciting the storming.
Swedish television has not responded to Kvartal’s questions about the video manipulation, but the television company’s marketing department writes the following in an email:
“Our editors are confident in SVT News’ overall publications in connection with the storming of the Capitol.”
Donald Trump has threatened to sue the BBC and demand a billion dollars due to the false claims spread by the television company about him. It is unclear whether he will also file legal claims against the Swedish state television.
Following Kvartal’s revelation, SVT has made some changes to the published video clip, but it is still manipulated in a way that misleads SVT’s viewers to believe that Trump expressed himself differently than he actually did.
