The Sweden Democrats’ national congress 2025 will begin next week, the party’s highest decision-making body held every other year. Ahead of the congress, several delegates are demanding the abolition of the law on incitement to racial hatred.
Several motions to abolish the law have been submitted, calling for a greater focus on freedom of speech. They also argue that the current formulation of the law is ambiguous.
The party leadership proposes that the Sweden Democrats should work to have the law reviewed and limited. They also believe that incitement against individuals based on sexual orientation or religious beliefs should not fall under the law.
– Most people can probably understand that it’s not a racial group, and that’s what the legislation implies it should be, a protection against racial groups. Then it has been broadened and added with different things, says party secretary Mattias Bäckström to Swedish Radio.
The Sweden Democrats’ national congress 2025 will be held on 20-23 November in Örebro.
