37-year-old Rivallo Willem Eduard Pelupessy became angry with his wife when she wanted a divorce. Instead of accepting her request, he drew a double-edged sword and stabbed her to death in front of their children. He is now charged with murder and aggravated breach of peace against the children.

It was on the evening of August 8th when Rivallo’s wife made it clear to him that she no longer wanted to be married or have a romantic relationship with him. Such news can be heavy to receive from a partner, but Rivallo took it much further.

Stabbed wife to death in front of children

Instead of agreeing to a divorce, he chose to murder his wife and the mother of their children. The murder was committed in the most brutal way, as Rivallo furiously stabbed the woman to death. It was also deliberately done in front of their two children.

One of the children called 112. When the police arrived at the address in Arvika, the woman was still alive but severely injured. Almost all of her blood had drained from her body as Rivallo had severed a major artery. She was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, but her life could not be saved.

Denies the crime

Rivallo was arrested, detained, and remanded in custody. He is now charged on probable cause for the murder of his wife and two counts of aggravated breach of peace against the traumatized children who witnessed their father stabbing their mother to death.

The main hearing is scheduled for November 25th and 26th. Rivallo denies the crime, but the prosecutor in the case, Barbro Brännlund, assesses the evidence as strong.

Incoherent and chaotic during interrogation

During the interrogation after his arrest, Rivallo says that he doesn’t understand why he is at the police station.

“I don’t understand why I’m sitting here, I can’t drink water, so I don’t understand why I’m here? My wrist hurts. I was brought here. I don’t know what I’ve done and I’m in my pajamas, you’ve taken all my stuff away,” he said.

It later became chaotic in the interrogation room when Rivallo refused to sit still, moved around, and shouted that he also wanted to die if his wife was dead, claiming to have no idea how it could have happened. His answers were incoherent, a mix of Swedish, English, and Dutch. The interrogator never obtained a confession.

Attended Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) with benefits

Both Rivallo and his wife were born in the Netherlands. The family immigrated to Sweden in 2021. During their time in Sweden, Rivallo attended Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) to learn Swedish, but based on police interrogations, he did not succeed.

To do this, Rivallo received financial benefits at the expense of Swedish taxpayers. This is according to witnesses spoken to by the police during the investigation. Furthermore, Rivallo is said to have had some form of drug problem.
