The 35-year-old man who was arrested outside Haga Castle in Stockholm last December is now charged with a serious offense against the knife law. This is evident from the application for summons submitted to the Solna District Court on Tuesday.
On December 4, a man rings the doorbell at the southern gate of Haga Castle. The man asks to speak with Crown Princess Victoria, who lives at the castle with her husband Prince Daniel and their three children.
The castle guard alerts the police protection group, which is in Hagaparken nearby. The castle is a protected object, and the police decide to conduct a protective search of the man.
Knives and hammer
In the man’s backpack, an airsoft pistol, a hammer, an awl, two knives, and five handcuffs are found, among other things.
The man, identified as 35-year-old Portuguese citizen Jar Alexandre Coelho, claims that he has knives and an airsoft pistol to defend himself. He explains the handcuffs as ‘sexual fantasies’.
The 35-year-old claims that he went to the castle to warn the Crown Princess about someone who wishes her harm.
He also has printed sheets with names, pictures, and addresses of several people in the pharmaceutical industry that he seems to have mapped out.
The man is arrested and remanded in custody on suspicion of preparing for aggravated assault, serious offense against the knife law, and minor drug offenses.
Charged
When Jar Alexandre Coelho is questioned by the police, he claims to know the royal family and firmly denies wanting to harm any royalty. He further claims to have ‘research’ that he believes the Crown Princess needs to be aware of.
‘She is interested in the security of the realm,’ he says, leaving bewildering statements about having been the target of several murder attempts in Sweden.
Now, the 35-year-old Portuguese man is charged with a serious offense against the knife law. The other two suspected crimes have not proceeded to prosecution.
During the investigation, suspicions have arisen that Alexandre Coelho, who denies the allegations, suffers from some form of mental illness. However, no specific diagnosis has emerged during the investigation.
