With 29 percent of the votes, the Freedom Party of Austria, FPÖ, became the largest party in the Austrian parliamentary election last September and has now been tasked with trying to form a new government.
Like similar parties that have achieved success in recent years in Europe, the FPÖ is also critical of immigration and skeptical of the EU, and rejects globalism.

After last year’s election victory, three of the other parties – the Social Democrats, the Liberals, and the Greens – refused to enter into a coalition with the party, while the Christian Democrats rejected a government in which FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl is involved.
