Two women, 37 and 20 years old, are convicted of stealing jewelry from elderly people in Partille, which were then sold. The thefts have been committed within the home care service, according to a recent ruling from Gothenburg District Court.

The older of the women, aged 37, has worked in home care. In that role, she has stolen jewelry of significant value from the care recipients.

Subsequently, a younger female relative of the woman, aged 20, has sold the jewelry to a jewelry dealer.

Linked to murder

Now, both women are convicted of crimes. The older of them has admitted to the crimes and is sentenced to two and a half years in prison for five aggravated thefts. Additionally, she must pay over 300,000 SEK in damages to the victims.

The younger of them is convicted, despite her denial, to a suspended sentence and 40 day fines for handling stolen goods and related offenses.

The 37-year-old woman was born in Gjilan in present-day Kosovo but is now a Swedish citizen. In November 2022, she received a summary punishment for fraud. The penalty was a suspended sentence and day fines.

During the criminal investigation, the 37-year-old was wiretapped, and she could then be linked to an unsolved murder in Gothenburg in 2005, when a 36-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in a fabric store.

However, since the 37-year-old was only 17 years old at the time of the murder, she escaped punishment. The reason was that the crime had expired due to her young age at the time of the murder.
