Malmö’s politicians went to the Christmas buffet at Rådhuskällaren in the city for over a hundred thousand tax crowns last month. According to the receipt obtained by Samnytt, 44 bottles of wine were consumed.
– It’s so damn poorly managed, says Nils Littorin of Malmölistan.
It was on December 17th last year that the Christmas buffet was arranged at Rådhuskällaren for Malmö’s elected politicians and top officials. According to the guest list obtained by Samnytt, 122 people accepted the invitation to attend the Christmas buffet.
In addition to Christmas food, mulled wine and wine were served, and the bill for the evening amounted to 115,309 kronor and 50 öre. It’s the taxpayers who foot the bill.
Christmas buffet for the employees instead
Doctor Nils Littorin is one of the founders and party leader of Malmölistan. The party received only 672 votes in the last election and is not represented in the city council.
He is critical of the fact that politicians in this way indulge themselves, while the Christmas buffet for the employees has been canceled.
– If we had the say, the staff would have had the Christmas buffet as it was before, and the politicians with their high salaries could pay for themselves, says Littorin to Samnytt.
– These politicians put themselves first. They think they are better or more deserving than the staff who don’t get any Christmas buffet.
“So damn poorly managed”
Nils Littorin particularly points out how savings have been made in several areas within the municipality, that elderly care is understaffed, and people with disabilities do not receive the help they need.
– If the politicians had managed the municipality exemplarily, the irritation over them indulging in three-course dinners, wine, beer, mulled wine, and everything else for hundreds of thousands of kronor would have been less offensive. Then at least one would have felt that they were doing their job, he says.
– But they don’t. Malmö is the municipality with the highest payouts of social benefits, the highest unemployment rate, receives the most grants from other municipalities and the state. We had fifteen explosions last month. That is, one every other day. The whole municipality is so damn poorly managed. In virtually every way.
More restaurant bills
The Christmas buffet at Rådhuskällaren was not the only time last year that Malmö’s decision-makers visited the restaurant at the taxpayers’ expense.
On two more occasions, in January and November, for example, the Disability Services Administration visited Rådhuskällaren for a three-course dinner. According to the receipts, beer, Italian wine, and cava were consumed with the meal. In total, the taxpayers had to pay 90,000 kronor for the two restaurant visits.
– Good Lord! Yes, you can hear for yourself! exclaims Nils Littorin when he hears about the receipts.
Samnytt has not yet been able to obtain all the receipts regarding taxpayer-funded restaurant visits to Rådhuskällaren.
