On behalf of public service television, the election research program at the University of Gothenburg has examined voters’ party leader sympathies in connection with all elections since 1979 and made a compilation. The result shows, among other things, that today’s generation of party leaders is the least liked in the past 40-45 years.

The respondents have been asked to rate how much they like or dislike a party leader on a scale ranging from +5 to -5, and then an average has been calculated.

With the data, a top list has been compiled. Since the measurement is made at each election, party leaders reappear several times.

According to Henrik Ekengren Oscarsson, professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg, party leaders often have the greatest popularity among voters who would never vote for that particular party.

Former Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt (M) has received the highest rating, followed by Bengt Westerberg (L) and Ingvar Carlsson (S). At the bottom is Jimmie Åkesson (SD). S-leader Magdalena Andersson is the only current party leader on the top ten list.
