Two preliminary investigations have been initiated against a total of ten politicians in Gothenburg’s school board and procurement committee. The charges are gross misconduct and involve, among other things, the boycott of Israeli goods.

In addition to the boycott of Israeli goods, it also concerns the decision to allocate extra funds to municipal schools but not independent schools. Both decisions were subsequently overturned by the administrative court, which, like the opposition, argues that the municipality did not have legal support to make them.

“The political majority has voted through decisions on two completely different issues. The minority, who have been outvoted, have considered this to be misconduct and filed a police report,” says prosecutor James von Reis to Göteborgs-Posten.

The police reports were made by the Liberals in Gothenburg and were directed at the politicians in the red-green government consisting of the Social Democrats, Left Party, and Green Party. von Reis claims to agree with the complainant that a crime can currently be suspected.

“Moral compass”

The party leaders of the affected parties, the chairman of the municipal executive board Jonas Attenius (S), vice chairman Daniel Bernmar (V), and Karin Pleijel (MP), state that they wholeheartedly support the politicians.

“I want to express my support for all the red-green politicians in our government. They have acted entirely in line with our moral compass, within the framework of the law and according to the will of the people,” says Jonas Attenius.
