In October, the declining food prices stopped and began to rise again. This is shown by new figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics, SCB. However, there were also items that became cheaper.

Food prices rose by 0.4 percent in October compared to September. Compared to October last year, prices have risen by 3.7 percent.

“Sweets and ice cream are among the items that became more expensive in October. Even meat and fish slightly increased in price in October compared to the previous month,” says Caroline Neander, price statistician at SCB.

Even items such as mineral water, soda, and fruit and vegetable juices became more expensive in October. Over the year, the price of coffee has risen by around 30 percent. Over the past twelve months, the prices of chocolate and frozen berries and fruits have also increased significantly.

What became cheaper in October was mainly vegetables and fruit. The price of cucumber and white cabbage decreased the most, with a decline of 13 and 18 percent, respectively.

“Apples and pears decreased in price by over five percent in October compared to September,” says Caroline Neander.
