On Wednesday morning, Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M) held a press conference to present the government’s view on the Swedish economy. According to the finance minister, there are now signs of a possible improvement in the economy.
In Elisabeth Svantesson’s overview of the economic situation, she highlighted some bright spots.
“If the forecast holds, we will have a growth of just over three percent (2026), which feels very good,” Svantesson said during the press conference.
At the same time, the finance minister warned of significant risks of setbacks due to geopolitical tensions and uncertainty about international tariffs.
“I see a brightening, but there are still major uncertainties,” she adds, pointing out that the budget forecast remains largely unchanged.

Among the positive signs, she mentioned, among other things, the Swedish Central Bureau of Statistics’ GDP indicator and other signals indicating improved sentiment among businesses and households.

Regarding the labor market, the finance minister noted that unemployment still remains at a high level. However, the government assesses that the situation will turn around as consumption increases and companies start hiring again.
“The labor market is cautious. It has been for a long time. Companies are waiting,” said the M-party leader.
