Center Party member Gustav Hemming, who sexually harassed a child in Stockholm’s public transport in August last year, remains at large, the Prosecutor’s Office has announced.
On Wednesday, Hemming was informed of suspicion of sexually harassing a child. The background is that on August 23 last year, he masturbated in front of a 13-year-old boy on the Roslagsbanan train in Stockholm.

Not remanded in custody
Sexual harassment of a child is a crime that carries a prison sentence. According to the Penal Code, the maximum penalty is two years in prison.
According to the Code of Judicial Procedure, a suspect who is suspected on probable cause of a crime for which a prison sentence of one year or more is prescribed can be remanded in custody.
However, Senior Prosecutor Rebecca Rehnström has chosen not to request Hemming’s remand in custody. She believes that it is rare for someone to be remanded in custody for the type of sexual harassment that the Center Party member is suspected of.
“I would say that it is very unusual. I have no further comments,” she says.

No interviews
There have been several cases in recent years where so-called flashers have been remanded in custody. However, Rebecca Rehnström does not want to comment on how she views the so-called risk of recidivism, that is, the risk of Gustav Hemming targeting more children.
“I refer to the press release and do not intend to give any interviews,” she says, ending the call.
Since it became known that Hemming sexually harassed a child, he has resigned from his positions in the party. He is one in a series of Center Party profiles who have committed or are linked to sexual abuse of children.
