Although criticism of the channel has been ongoing for several years, and its left-leaning bias is a well-established fact, the scandal surrounding how BBC manipulated a speech by Trump hit like a bomb. The case reveals exactly what many have tried to point out – that the left-leaning bias is ingrained in the culture of the BBC and will require extensive measures to address.
BBC’s director-general Tim Davie and BBC News CEO Deborah Turness announced on Sunday evening that they are resigning due to questions of bias after a BBC Panorama special program edited Trump’s speech on January 6, 2021, to make it seem as if he had encouraged supporters to storm the Capitol.
One who has long criticized the BBC is Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK. This week, Farage revealed that he had spoken to Trump about the BBC’s distortion of his speech and questioned whether this is how one treats their best ally.

What the BBC did was election interference, according to Farage, who also notes that the BBC has been institutionally biased for decades. Farage is supported by Tory leader Kemi Badenoch.
“I think this is not just about the latest manipulation of a documentary about Donald Trump. It’s about how the BBC has continuously covered issues of gender and sex,” she says.

Threatening with Lawsuit
BBC chairman Samir Shah sent a letter to the Parliament’s Culture, Media, and Sports Committee on Monday acknowledging that the editing of Trump’s speech “created the impression of a direct incitement to violent actions” and apologized “for the erroneous judgment.”
Trump’s lawyers have demanded that the BBC retract the false claims about him in the documentary, otherwise they could be sued for a billion dollars in damages.
Raising Questions about SVT
The revelation also raises questions about how the BBC reported on the war in Gaza and how it has been a megaphone for the terrorist group Hamas.
During the war, the BBC has had to correct an average of two articles per week – since October 2023, BBC Arabic has made 215 corrections and clarifications.
Another question raised is about Swedish public service and media, which are equally biased and often use notorious sources such as CNN and BBC.
