The so-called Afghan refugee Dawood Safi, who illegally entered the UK and lied about his age, fatally stabbed 49-year-old Wayne Broadhurst while he was out walking his dog in London. Broadhurst was stabbed 14 times. Just prior to this, Safi had also stabbed his landlord and a 14-year-old boy. Despite the three attacks, the Afghan will avoid prison.
The attack took place on October 27, 2025, on Midhurst Gardens in Uxbridge. 49-year-old Wayne Broadhurst was walking his dog Harry when Safi suddenly launched an assault. Judge Mrs Justice Cutts described the attack as insane, random, and completely unprovoked.
A few minutes earlier, Safi had attacked his landlord and stabbed a 14-year-old boy. According to the court, the Afghan suffered from paranoid delusions and heard voices. This is reported by BBC and Sky News.

The Afghan admitted to manslaughter but claimed he was mentally ill and therefore could not be fully responsible for his actions. Doctors later determined that he suffered from psychotic depression.

A psychiatrist has examined Safi and assessed him as paranoid and believing he was being followed. He is also said to have heard voices, which the psychiatrist said were behind his actions that day.
The prosecutor dropped the murder charge after Safi admitted to manslaughter and doctors certified he was seriously mentally ill when he killed Wayne Broadhurst. He was also convicted of attempted murder of his landlord and admitted the stabbings of the 14-year-old constituted “assault.”
Illegal Immigration – Lied About Age
Dawood Safi was born in northern Afghanistan and illegally entered the UK in the bed of a truck in November 2020. To increase his chances of asylum, he lied about his age and claimed to be 17, when he was actually 22.
In the UK, he worked as an Uber driver and reportedly studied to become a mechanic. He had no prior convictions before the stabbing attacks on the innocent victims.

Psychiatric Care Instead of Life in Prison
Safi will now avoid prison. On Monday, he was instead sentenced to indefinite compulsory psychiatric care. Had he not been mentally ill, Safi would have been sentenced to life in prison.
The judge also recommended that the Afghan be deported, but the final decision is up to the Home Secretary.
