A large-scale search operation is underway in Nyåker, Nordmaling municipality, located about 50 kilometers from both Umeå and Örnsköldsvik, after a two-year-old boy disappeared from a residence on Sunday morning. Police, rescue services, mountain rescuers, and volunteers are participating in the effort – and during the evening, the Armed Forces were also called in to assist with the search.
The boy was last seen around 10 o’clock and since then, police, emergency services, mountain rescuers, and volunteer organizations have worked intensively to find him.
Throughout the day, the operation has gradually expanded and late in the afternoon, the police announced that the Armed Forces had also been brought in to assist in the search.
The search is being conducted both on the ground and from the air. Drones with thermal cameras and helicopters are being used to search roads, forested areas, and open fields around the village. Mountain rescuers and dog handlers are also active on the ground.
The volunteer organization Missing People is also participating in the effort. The organization’s emergency group describes the situation as very serious.
In addition to authorities and volunteer organizations, many local residents have joined the search or provided tips. According to police, engagement in Nyåker has been high throughout the day.
The terrain around the village consists of both forests and open land, making the search operation extensive. At present, there is no suspicion of foul play.
The police have released a description of the boy and urge the public to immediately call 112 if he is spotted. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing an orange sweater, gray sweatpants, and blue shoes, but there are reports that he may also be barefoot. He has dark brown hair.
